The Day The Light Stayed: A Review Of The EP From Foglights

The pairing of Eva Cord (The Cords) and Archie Ingram (Stone Anthem) has resulted in one of the most listenable efforts of 2026. The duo's new EP, Nous Deux is out this week and it's clearly one of this reviewer's favorite records this month.

If you've already heard opener "The Rain Felt Kind" then you know that there's a real Galaxie 500 influence here. Still, Foglights make this sort of thing work very well, and the track charms immensely even after a dozen listens. Elsewhere, "I Don't Know" mines a vein of indie similar to the better Mojave 3 numbers, while the dreamy "The Day the Light Stayed" flits forward with a subtle yet insistent hook behind it. It's elegantly simple and wonderful too. Closer "A Brighter Kind of Almost" is more ethereal still, with vocals from both members of the duo nudging this one into shape.

Foglights make music that should earn comparisons to not only Galaxie 500 and early Yo La Tengo, but The Telescopes, Pale Saints, and Razorcuts. The material here is so good, and four songs is not nearly enough. Nous Deux hits all the sweet spots for me as a fan, and it's the sort of thing that this reviewer could rave about at length. However, it's probably better to just suggest that you get this as quickly as you can. It's something that most readers of this site will likely love too.

Nous Deux by Foglights will be out on August 21 on Slumberland Records here and on Skep Wax in Europe.
