Here's another new one from Swansea Sound. Their new record won't be out until November, and if the rest of it is like "On Our Own" we are in for a treat.
Swansea Sound -- Hue Williams (The Pooh Sticks), Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey (Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, The Catenary Wires), Bob Collins (The Dentists, The Treasures of Mexico), and Ian Button (Death in Vegas, Louis Philippe, Pete Astor, and Papernut Cambridge) -- tackle the loss of a venue and so much more here on this second single from Pre-post-truth.
A song of economic changes and the need for empowerment, "On Our Own" succeeds thanks to crunchy guitars and Hue's earnest vocals. There's something necessarily grim in the lyrics here, but Williams sings this in such a way that there's a little hope creeping in. What starts as a cut about things changing and being ruined, with folks and culture being left behind, turns into a sort of resilient cry. Wasn't the DIY scene always on its own? It will survive, surely.
Pre-post-truth by Swansea Sound is out on November 13. Details via Skep Wax, and you can pre-order here.
