Further confirming that there's something in the water in the Bay area capable of generating great bands, Twin Bloom are here with a new EP. The Dandy Boy Records four-piece favor a Jayhawks-meet-Teenage Fanclub-y approach on their new self-titled EP. The robust sound of this is a nice surprise given the wealth of jangle-pop outfits coming from the Bay these days.
Opener "Magazine Dreams" is a little rocky, while the soaring "Signals" adds a faint keyboard to the guitars to great effect. This is smart indie-pop, and lots of Twin Bloom sounds like stuff that shaped our tastes in the past. Twin Bloom manage to make tunes like "Summer's Gone" sound fresh and new, even as the cut has the sort of retro appeal that might make reviewers compare it to Tommy Keene, or Teenage Fanclub. That stuff like this one is light and catchy is even better. "Under the Current" closes out the EP in punchy fashion. Another winner.
Twin Bloom by Twin Bloom is out on Friday, July 10 via Dandy Boy Records.
