One of the first memorable shows I saw at the new 9:30 Club was Mojave 3/Lush/Scheer in early 1996. The 4AD line-up was pretty impressive, especially so since I was younger and more suited to seeing three bands in one night 30 years ago. Now, with some good news, that same legendary label is prepping to reissue the complete Mojave 3 discography.
Out on July 24 will be new vinyl and CD reissues of Ask Me Tomorrow (1995), Out of Tune (1998) , Excuses For Travellers (2000), Spoon and Rafter (2003), and Puzzles Like You (2006) . Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell from Slowdive were joined by drummer Ian McCrutcheon as Mojave 3. The sound was more languid, and more influenced by Americana. Mojave 3 offered up moody tunes, but ones more on the edges of shoegaze than Slowdive's efforts had been. The five albums will be out on July 24 on digital, CD, and vinyl, as well as a collected vinyl set with a limited print from 4AD.
