This is one absolutely lush single! That this comes from a musician from a band known for their unique brand of aural cacophony is a surprise. My New Band Believe is the new project from Cameron Picton of Black Midi. And "Love Story" is the first taste of music from that effort.
String-soaked, "Love Story" surges with emotions. The cut goes from whispered vocals to swelling strings and then down to near-silence again. There's an aching beauty in this that is really special, and it's closer to work from Michael Nyman than it is to Cameron Picton's old band. In fact, you could even take the vocals out of this and have a beautiful piece of chamber rock.
