Darkest Dreams: 4AD Announces His Name Is Alive Reissues

This is wonderful news. In 2024 4AD put out a massive His Name is Alive box-set. On that occasion I interviewed Warren Defever about the records in the set. Now, in 2026, the same imprint will be reissuing the first trio of official His Name is Alive albums individually.

Livonia (1990), Home is in Your Head (1991), and Mouth by Mouth (1993) will be available as of May 8 on standard black vinyl and CD. Each record is a masterpiece in its own way, with Livonia being a seminal work in the genre that has since become known as dream-pop. The bracing Mouth by Mouth still stands up over time as perhaps my favorite all-around HNIA long-player, with the tunes within veering between ethereal loveliness and sharply rendered bits of skewed chamber pop. We are big fans of all of his work here, as witnessed by yesterday's review of an EP he mastered, and our numerous pieces on His Name is Alive and the various reissues in the last five years or so.

Livonia (1990), Home is in Your Head (1991), and Mouth by Mouth (1993) by His Name is Alive will be out on May 8 via 4AD. You can preorder here.
