The legendary indie outfit Heavenly are in the midst of promoting a new record. That is something I'd never have thought I'd be writing given that the band's not released one in nearly three decades. And there's a new single and a new video. If the rest of the new album is like "Scene Stealing" then we'll all be happy because this is one charming song!
"Scene Stealing" is light as air on first listen. The vocals from Amelia Fletcher and Cathy Rogers carry this. The original members of Heavenly -- Amelia Fletcher, Peter Momtchiloff, Cathy Rogers and Rob Pursey -- are joined by drummer Ian Button who takes the place once occupied by the late Matthew Fletcher. The band sounds like they always did, and that's a good thing. This one is even more like classic Heavenly than was last year's fine "Portland Town", the band's comeback single. And the sound that once upon a time inspired folks to dub this kind of thing twee is still here, but I'd rather just call this superb indie-pop!
The new Heavenly full-length record will be here in two weeks. I'm pretty confident that folks are going to love it, but for now, let's dig this new gem of a track, and enjoy the playful video too.
Highway to Heavenly by Heavenly will be out on February 27 via Skep Wax. More details via Bandcamp.
