TRACK OF THE WEEK: "Sonic Amadea" By Good Day Father (Catherine Wheel, Belly)

This is the track this week that should be on the radar of anyone who likes the kind of music that inspired this site in the first place nearly 20 years ago. The pairing of Brian Futter (Catherine Wheel) and Tanya Donelly (Belly, The Breeders, Throwing Muses) is obviously a great one, right? Just think back to Tanya's guest spot on Catherine Wheel's "Judy Staring at the Sun" single. And thankfully that friendship continued, and new music resulted.

Good Day Father finds Brian and Tanya teaming up to great effect. There are elements here of Catherine Wheel's guitar attack on Ferment and Belly's harder-edged stuff from 1995's King. And an especially lyrical guitar-line from Brian and lovely, emotive vocals from Tanya conjure up the kind of infectiousness both of these musicians have offered up in the past. There are new shades here too, and this track works as both a continuation of the styles these two pursued earlier, and an indication of something which feels fresh now in 2026.

I cannot wait for more from Good Day Father and I'm hoping that this single is the start of even more collaboration on new music soon.
