VIDEO OF THE WEEK: "Thru The Flowers (85/25)" By The Primitives

To celebrate 40 years as a band, The Primitives are releasing a limited 7-inch this week. "Thru the Flowers (85/25)" / "Sweet Sister Sorrow" features two classic numbers from The Primitives, worked over a bit for 2025. The additional guitars on the A-side give "Thru the Flowers" new kicks, and the retrospective video is a reward for those us who've been here nearly 40 years.

While "Thru the Flowers" is a classic, and a song that could be Track of the Week any week, it's worth shining a light on it again because of the rare imagery and footage contained in the new video; how could any new Primitives video NOT be a Video of the Week here?! The Primitives have remained consistently great for so long that I wouldn't want anyone to take them for granted, and the montage here in this video reminds one of the different phases of the band's career, and sort of sums up their appeal in under three minutes. This one, and the catchy flip-side here, are just indie gems, and neat encapsulations of so much of the best kind of music that I set up this site to cover in the first place. If you don't get the vinyl on Elefant, you can buy the download or get it on Bandcamp.
