VIDEO OF THE WEEK: "Flowers" By Assistant

This is an absolutely gorgeous song! And the video, revealing Brighton band Assistant's frolics and history, is endearing in the extreme. For those of you here who agreed with my rave of last year's full-length album from Assistant, I think you'll see why I'm raving about this one too.

"Flowers" is very much in the vein of the best happy/sad songs from The Go-Betweens, or Spinning Coin maybe. The main vocals from Jonthan Shipley are warm, and very Grant McLennan-ish (is that an adjective? It is now!), while the chorus has a vocal twist like a Syd Barrett song where the melody really gets you. Throughout, the players here inject a lot of heart into this, while the guitar hook that powers the song is pure Realistes-era Comet Gain.

"Flowers" by Assistant is out today. There's a very limited vinyl split-single with Goodbye Wudaokou which you can find via Bandcamp.
