SPLIT-SINGLE FEATURE: "Girls" From Lung Leg (Feat. Lora Logic of X-Ray Spex) / "Unmarry Me" By Unmarry Me! (Ex-Huggy Bear)
This is one helluva cool release! Errol's Hot Wax, that fab imprint from Glasgow, is issuing this split single from seminal DIY punks Lung Leg along with a track from Umarry Me!, a group featuring Chris Rowley of Huggy Bear, among others. It's a great way to start the week!
"Girls" by Lung Leg is a pointed faux-naive bit of pop punk. The vibe and sensibility of this one fits that of guest Lora Logic's old band, X-Ray Spex. Paul Thomson (Franz Ferdinand, Adulkt Life) kicks off the revolution with pounding drums, and the singsong-y vocals make the smart lyrics go down like candy. This is really fun, and it's clever.
The rhythmic "Unmarry Me" from Unmarry Me! has a bit of heft to it. Chris Rowley (Huggy Bear, Adulkt Life) brings a vibe to this that's full of bad intent. I say that like it's a bad thing but far from it. This cut oozes with a kind of force, and it stands as much of a smart declaration of indie as the other side of this split-single.
Second City Static 004 from Lung Leg and Unmarry Me! is out now via Errol's Hot Wax.
