The bright piano-based music of Kelly Moran straddles a line between ambient and post-rock. Her 2024 album was something praised here, and I'm happy to share that she's prepping a new release on Warp.
"Echo in the Field" is the first taste of Don't Trust Mirrors, and it's a piece of glittering keyboard hooks and a jittery insistence that is nearly hypnotic. Rippling lines carry the melody in about a dozen places at once, and the whole enterprise feels like it's imbued with a borderline manic energy that gives something pretty a real feeling of intensity. I'm now eager to hear more from Kelly in 2024 and thankfully we won't have too long to wait.
