Sounding like one of those bands Swan was mentoring in De Palma's Phantom of the Paradise (1974), and with a decidedly throwback visual aesthetic that places them next to contemporaries Tchotchke, Facincations Grand Chorus are here to kick-start the week in a big way.
"Static Heartbreaks" revs up like early Blondie, a tasty hook keeping this one going. And with a smartly concise running time, the whole pop masterpiece is over in under two minutes. It's aces. It's catchy as heck too. This Jersey City duo -- Stephanie Cupo and Andrew Pierce -- are now firmly on my radar and I really hope a full-length record is coming soon. For now, dig the Bob Sweeney-directed video for this gem of a song.
