I think I gave this a chance because it was mixed by Warren Defever (His Name is Alive), but I was charmed by the Nilsson-meets-Father John Misty vibes of the cut.
"I Walked Away from the Firing Squad" by Craig Benedict Valentine Badynee (sometimes billed as CBVB) is complex, elegant, and catchy as hell. It's a lovely bit of pop that's rare in its approach, and playful in Craig's vocal performance. I'm thinking of bands like Cousteau, Brian, and even early The Divine Comedy for points of reference here, but ultimately this is Craig's moment. And this new single is all Craig except for the backing vocals and sax. A formidable talent indeed, and one we'll be watching closely here.
