One could argue that The Sunset Tree is the best album from The Mountain Goats. That's an easy side to take. Who could not deny how great the 2025 record is? And, of course, it's got "This Year", the group's best known song (maybe).
In a surprise announcement today, 4AD offered up a 20th anniversary edition of The Sunset Tree for pre-order. The John Vanderslice-produced masterpiece will be out again in a new edition on October 17, on vinyl, CD, and download. It's a classic that rewards a careful listen, and sits nicely next to those John Vanderslice albums from the same era.
