A Quick Review Of The Debut Album From Folk Bitch Trio

With a desperately attention-seeking name, Folk Bitch Trio are one of the hotly-tipped acts of 2025. But even with a little bit of hype in the right places, the music still has to work. So does it?

This Australian trio are like The Roches if that old trio was around doing Angel Olsen-style stuff. The majority of Now Would Be a Good Time should appeal to fans of Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, and so on. Tracks like "TV Hotel" have an easily-earned ramble to them, while the harmonies on "God's a Different Sword" suggest a debt owed to Linda Thompson maybe. Similarly, the lyrical "The Actor" is gorgeous, with a twisting melody which utterly charms.

The material on Now Would Be a Good Time leaves a lot of space for the singers to take over, and so none of the numbers here can be said to have a big hook or anything. That's not really enough of a problem to not make this debut album recommended, of course. This is a new group, and it's only a matter of time before someone is comparing the next hot thing to these three.
