VIDEO OF THE WEEK: "Break" By Ryli (Yea-Ming Chen, Etc.)

A taste of their upcoming album, "Break" makes for a fine Nineties-style video from Bay Area band Ryli. Featuring Yea-Ming Chen and Luke Robbins of Yea-Ming Chen and the Rumours, this group makes guitar-based indie that's both introspective and robust. "Break" is a great example of the appeal of Ryli.

Centered around the winsome vocals of Yea-Ming Chen, Ryli seem to be taking cues from Velocity Girl, Alvvays, and even Belly. The approach is very much in line with the kind of American indie I listened to in the Nineties, and it's very much a kind of pop with big appeal. I hear something like "Break" and think it should be on the radio a lot. If it was an earlier age, this video would be in heavy rotation on MTV2 or something. Ryli really take a listener back, all while delivering some of the best catchy indie 2025 is likely to see.

Come and Get Me by Ryli will be out on June 27 via Dandy Boy Records. Details below via Bandcamp.
