Bold electronic performer Holly Herndon is here with a slice of remixed music. "Eternal - Re-Imagined" finds the cut from her 2019 LP reshaped by Vince Pope (composer of the soundtrack for True Detective: Night Country) and Alex Daves. This re-imagining of the number from her 2019 album on 4AD is emotive and austere in equal measure.
This new version is a shot in the arm, Holly's vocals bouncing from harsh to lovely, as the strings and samples buttress her. The piece has an icy charm about it, even as the pieces of the number sort of circle each other. The strings are as important here as the voice of Holly, and this remixed version anchors a mood that's one of something coldly futuristic and mournfully backward-looking. I'm hoping there's more music from Holly Herndon here in 2025.
Eternal - Re-Imagined" by Holly Herndon is out via 4AD.
