The main reason it seemed as if Ivy might never return was the death in 2020 of Adam Schelesinger. The Fountains of Wayne musician, and original member of Ivy, succumbed to COVID-19 five years ago and his death made music that was already a bit bittersweet, even more so. Anything one played now from Ivy was touched by that realization that the music was a special thing that might never be revived.
Now, Andy Chase and Dominique Durand have taken recordings featuring the late Adam Schelesinger and prepped a new album. With the blessings of Adam's family, the band got to work, enlisting guitarist Bruce Driscoll to join in on the effort. The result is Traces of You, a new Ivy record slated for September release. The first track is "Say You Will", and it's out now.
The video reveals the band today -- Chase, Durand, and Driscoll -- with footage of the late Schelesinger interspersed with the current footage. It's a poignant reminder of what his talents brought to this band. As they continue on, they seem to be determined to carry on his legacy even into 2025. Highly recommended.
Ivy, welcome back!
Traces of You by Ivy will be out on Bar/None Records in September.
