VIDEO OF THE WEEK: "Scissors" By Activity (Russian Baths, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Peel Dream Magazine)
Yet another new track from Activity! The Dark-wave is strong with this one. I dig it totally!
Over glistening surfaces built by keyboards and synths, vocals from Jess Rees (Russian Baths) point the way through the night. This is rather emotive when the keyboards kick in, and the mix of subdued vocals and a deliberate pace might recall Black Box Recorder, Mazzy Star, or Goldfrapp for some, but the music of Activity is bold on its own terms.
Activity features vocalist and guitarist Travis Johnson (Grooms), bassist Bri DiGioia, guitarist Jess Rees (Russian Baths), and drummer Brian Alvarez (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Peel Dream Magazine). Their new record, announced today, is A Thousand Years in Another Way, and it's out on June 6 via Western Vinyl.
More details on Activity via the band's Bandcamp page, or via the Western Vinyl Bandcamp page. The band's going to be playing some dates with FACS and Suuns and those sound like dream line-ups.
The video for "Scissors" was directed by Yasmeen Night.
