VIDEO OF THE WEEK: "Garden" By Maria Somerville

The music of Maria Somerville recalls earlier artists on 4AD, a fact I mentioned when I featured a single from the musician back in September. I'm happy to share another one, and news of the debut record from Maria Somerville today.

Today's track is "Garden", and it's a warm bit of dream-pop not entirely dissimilar from what Swallow and Pale Saints dropped on this label a few decades ago. It's also a kind of cousin to 4AD-adjacent tunes, like those from Julee Cruise, Pygmalion-era Slowdive, and even The Cure. The song is from Luster, Maria Somerville's new record which will be out on April 25. I've been sitting with these Somerville tunes for a bit and I have to say that this sort of thing really takes me back. Music this rich and sonically deep is always something to be appreciated. And I think you all will appreciate Luster soon.

"Garden" by Maria Somerville is out now. Luster is to be released on April 25 via 4AD.
