The second new single from Mogwai is fine on its own terms. Heck, it's superb, really, with a guitar solo that's part acid rock and part funky freakout, but it's the video for the tune that really got my attention.
The Scottish group chose to showcase Lawrence Wilson, Glasgow transplant to NYC, as he takes off on his daily duties as a dog-walker. The juxtaposition between the carefree dogs and the purposeful POV of the video and the squalls and surges of the song is really compelling. I like the track a lot, but the video makes it even better. And that's the best compliment you can say about any music video, right?
The new Mogwai album, The Bad Fire, will be out in January 2025. Details via Bandcamp below.
The band's heading out on the road soon, with stops next year in the U.S., including April 7 at D.C.'s 930 Club. More details on all things Mogwai via the official website.
