New group Half Tiger are making music that sounds like the stuff I have always held in high regard. Combining elements of seminal groups like The Go-Betweens and mid-period Aztec Camera, Half Tiger make indie that's got throwback appeal. These two new songs are hopefully going to be the first of many, and "Consequences" is our Track of the Week here.
Martin Wilson and Tanya Elizabeth were in Tigermoth. And after appearing at gigs with Arctic Monkeys, The Horrors, and peers, the two went their separate ways only to reunite years later. The duo's tunes are wonderful. I've played "Consequences" a bunch and I think the easiest way to describe it would be to say it sounds like Grant McLennan singing a song from The Apartments. There's something sad here, but also something hopeful, especially so when the track takes off and the guitar-riffs get a little crunchy. I can't wait to hear more from Half Tiger.
"Consequences" / "Tightrope" by Half Tiger is out now. More details below.
