Dirt Buyer is Joe Sutkowski. He makes music that's in debt to grunge and the sort of noise rock that bubbled up from his New York home so many years ago. His latest record is full of crunchy feedback and good tunes.
Opener "Baseball" is imbued with the kind of cool vibe that propelled the early Dinosaur Jr. stuff into our hearts, while "For Me" and "Wait on the World" are more down-tempo. These cuts are of a style like old Heatmiser records, or current ones from King Tuff. At his best, like on the languid "Halfway" or semi-heartfelt "When You Were a Kid", Joe succeeds at making music that's suitably scuzzy and a bit unruly, but which retains a lot of heart. Fans of any of the bands referenced in this review will likely find a place to land here on this all-too-short, but highly recommended record.
