The return of Howling Bells is good news. The Aussie trio has been away for more than 10 years, and thankfully they've got a new record, Strange Life, prepped for February.
Until then, dig "Chimera", their newest single and video. Mixing live footage and studio shots, the vid is a good supplement to the shimmering wonders of the song itself. Vocalist and guitarist Juanita Stein charms, and her voice is circled by the guitar-lines from her brother Joel Stein, and beats from drummer Glenn Moule. The cut kind of swirls around, and works up a dreamy pattern that's not too dreamy, but fairly robust. There's something Pale Saints-y here to these veteran ears, and I dig this one a lot.
