You Are The Kind: A Quick Review Of The New EP From Red Sleeping Beauty

To celebrate more than three decades of making great indie, Sweden's Red Sleeping Beauty are here with a new EP, and news of a spectacular-sounding forthcoming 50-track compilation.

Collecting four examples of the band's brand of smart pop, the You Are The Kind EP features "Pop Song", a breezy gem from their Bedroom (1995) album, and the title cut of this ep, from the 1992 International Pop EP compilation. "Hey!", a bit of youthful fun, is from an old Japanese compilation, and it skirts along as light as air. That one is a real highlight here, as is "Strife", a previously-unreleased bit of DIY goodness.

This new You Are The Kind release serves as an appetizer for the upcoming banquet of that just-announced 50-track compilation. Red Sleeping Beauty cover a few styles within the jangle-pop genre, and there's enough heart and smarts in these four songs to make contemporary acts a bit jealous. And rightly so as this is great stuff.
