Leeds band Tulpa, like Big Country and Minor Threat, have a single where they name-check themselves in the title. Good thing it's as bright as sunshine, and super cool too.
"Let's Make a Tulpa" by Tulpa is the first taste of their upcoming album. While lots of the bands I champion here these days seem to be drawing inspiration from shoegaze pioneers, or jangle-pop legends from England, Tulpa seem to be taking their cues a little from Nineties American indie. It's not a stretch to say that Josie Kirk's winning vocals sound a bit like those of Juliana Hatfield of Blake Babies, and it's not crazy to compare the band's guitar attack to that of Veruca Salt either. I dig this, and I'm eager to hear more now.
"Let's Make a Tulpa" by Tulpa is out now. Their new album will be out at the end of November on Skep Wax.
