Things change, the world gets worse but there's always Superchunk. A balm for me for decades, the music of this four-piece never seems to go out of style, and always packs the sort of kick I'm looking for. With recent news that Secretly was taking a stake in Merge, it felt like a new era was about to begin. Thankfully, I'm here to report that this band continues, and is still doing it right.
Announcing their first new album since 2022's sublime Wild Loneliness, and their first with new drummer Laura King (Bat Fangs, R. Ring), Superchunk recently dropped an energetic lead single from their 2025 long-player. "Is It Making You Feel Something?" is, like "Digging for Something" a few years back, one of those tracks that sort of re-affirms the Superchunk charm. Mac's yearning vocals are here, there's a late song sort of chord change that ratchets up the energy, and the whole thing feels both familiar and slightly new (but in a great way). I dig it, and I'm sure you'll dig it too!
Songs in the Key of Yikes by Superchunk is out at the end of August on Merge Records. Details also below via Bandcamp where you can pre-order the album in whatever format you like.
